The thief made off with the cash after threatening staff that he had gun at West Bromwich Building Society.

No-one was injured during Monday's raid, which comes just weeks after would-be raiders targeted a Lloyds TSB in Oldbury.

The man walked into the High Street-based building society at 5pm on Monday. He claimed to have a firearm and threatened the two staff, who were told to hand over the money which was put into a black, plastic sports bag. He then ran off along High Street in the direction of Oldbury.

The robber is described as an Asian man aged 35 to 45 who was wearing dark coloured clothing, including a beanie hat.

He also wore a pair of distinctive silver-framed glasses and was thought to be carrying a JD Sports bag.

Any witnesses or people who may recognise the robber should call 0845 113 5000 and ask to speak to Smethwick police station.
