A retirement care village comprising 130 flats and 10 bungalows is planned for a Staffordshire town.

The scheme for over-55s is earmarked for Eccleshall near Stafford. H&H Holman Properties have submitted plans to Stafford Borough Council. Homes would be available to purchase, rent or on a shared-ownership basis.

If it gets the go-ahead, the development would be built on the northern edge of the town with a new traffic island off Castle Street. A new public car park forms part of the proposed development on Town Meadow with a public footpath leading to the library and to High Street.

The scheme's architects, Hanley-based Hulme Upright, propose 130 two-bedroom flats and 10 two-bedroom bungalows built around a central amenity facility in a parkland setting with dedicated car parking.

The overall mass of the development is broken down in size and scale by turning the buildings at 90 degrees to one another and by introducing differing wall materials that reflect those used locally.

Local residents will have access to the health and fitness facilities, restaurant and bar within the central amenity building within the retirement village.

Representatives of the developer will be at the town's library between 9.30am and midday on December 15 and 16 to deal with any queries. Anyone wishing to comment on the plans during the consultation period can write to the Planning Department, Stafford Borough Council, Riverside, Stafford, with a copy to the parish clerk Mrs C Heelis, 42 Badgers Croft, Eccleshall.
