Threshers branches to close
Two off-licences are to close in the Wolverhampton area as 1,900 jobs are axed nationwide at Threshers' failed parent company, it emerged today.
Threshers, in Finchfield Road West, and Wine Rack in Bridgnorth Road, Wightwick, are among 38 doomed shops across the UK. A total of 11 jobs are being lost at the two shops, which are due to close by December 16. They will be holding stock liquidation sales starting on Tuesday.
It is the second round of massive cuts at the First Quench group since it went into administration at the end of October.
Earlier this month administrators from KPMG closed 373 of its 1,600 stores, sacking 1,700 of its 6,300 workers. The Wine Rack in Upper Green, Tettenhall, was among those closed, with the loss of three jobs.
Richard Fleming, UK head of restructuring at KPMG and joint administrator, said today: "We are now in advanced talks regarding the sale of the business with a number of interested parties and have ascertained that parts of the portfolio, consisting of just over 500 stores, are of interest to these potential purchasers.
"These stores will continue to trade while we progress our negotiations."
