Liz Quinn was invited to tea with Mr Brown at 10 Downing Street to celebrate her success.

And he paid tribute to her for inspiring her pupils of Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre with her creative teaching.

Miss Quinn, aged 51, won the Royal Air Force Headteacher of the Year Award in a secondary school accolade in this year's national Teaching Awards.

She was due to be joined at today's tea party by other professionals honoured in the awards.

The event has been organised by the Prime Minister's Office to mark the 11th anniversary year of the Teaching Awards.

Miss Quinn was presented with her accolade in recognition of making sweeping, and successful, changes at the school, in Kidderminster Road, including introducing new rules and uniforms. She was nominated for the award by one of her pupils.

Two years ago the school doubled in size, due to reorganisation, and Miss Quinn successfully managed the upheaval for staff and pupils.
