Hoard is returning to county

Part of the Staffordshire Hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold is set to be exhibited in its home county.

Around 80 items from the historic find, which was unearthed on the Burntwood/Brownhills border by a man with a metal detector during the summer, will go on display at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery.

A date for the exhibition is yet to be decided but it is likely to last for about a month early next year.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is currently working with the Birmingham authority to jointly acquire the Hoard, which is due to be valued by the Treasure Valuation Committee on November 25 and could be worth millions of pounds.

Parts of the treasure went on show at the British Museum in London today.

The British Museum is backing the Potteries and Birmingham museums efforts to buy the Hoard.
