It's Sheila's time at art gallery
'It's my time now' - that is the message from Sheila Hague, winner of an Express & Star quest to find the 100th face to adorn an exhibition currently on show at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
After caring for her daughter following an horrific accident, the death of her husband last year and major heart surgery, the grandmother-of-three is ready to enjoy her moment in the spotlight.
The 70-year-old entered a competition to find the 100th face to adorn the Faces of Wolverhampton exhibition. The display comprises a photography show by the Express & Star's chief photographer Gavin Dickson.
Her inspiring tale and personality convinced judges she was worthy of occupying the coveted final spot in the show.
Mrs Hague, of Grovelands Crescent, in Fordhouses, said: "They wanted an explanation of 100 words or less on why you should be the face of Wolverhampton. I just explained what had happened to me in the last few years."
Her daughter Gillian was in an accident while on holiday, so she gave up her work as a dinner lady to help nurse her back to health. But in March last year, Mrs Hague's husband Roy passed away suddenly, just days before she was diagnosed with a heart condition. She underwent surgery, is now doing well and added the portrait tries to show her looking positive.
She said: "Yes, this is my time."
Photographer Gavin Dickson added: "Sheila's story made her a worthy winner. She is a real Wolverhampton person."
