Gang rape suspect stands trial

A man accused of taking part in the gang rape of a teenage girl has gone on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Chayne Taylor and two other men who have never been identified attacked the 19-year-old in the grounds of the Jennie Lee Centre in Wednesfield, jurors heard. The men are said to have struck as she walked home in the early hours April 14.

Taylor, aged 21, of Dover Street, Wednesfield, denies rape.

Mr Walter Bealby, prosecuting, said the girl, who had been drinking heavily, approached the group while heading home at 4am. After pointing her in the direction of a shortcut through the education centre, the three are said to have followed and repeatedly raped her.

The men are then alleged to have discussed whether to take the girl with them as she lay semi-conscious on the grass before leaving her, stealing two bottles of wine she had been carrying.

Taylor was arrested after his DNA was found on the teenager's skirt and in a condom left at the scene, the court heard. Two other lots of DNA, which have not been identified, were also found on the skirt.

The court heard Taylor denied the attack during police interviews but later admitted having intercourse with the girl, saying it was consensual. The trial continues.
