Fireworks worth around £12,000 have been stolen from a container on a farm in Penkridge.

Shopkeepers in the Black Country have already been offered a selection of fireworks believed to have been stolen from the container.

Police are now issuing a warning to shopkeepers across Staffordshire and the West Midlands that they may also be offered some of the stolen haul of fireworks and to call officers immediately if they are approached. The fireworks were stolen over the weekend.

The owner reported the crime to police who are now trying to trace the stolen fireworks and the offenders.

Police would not give more details about the farm or why the fireworks were being stored there.

A shopkeeper in Sedgley has come forward to police saying he had been offered some of the fireworks.

A shop in Dudley Road, Wolverhampton, was also offered the stolen fireworks which are branded 'SP' and include Halloween Ghost Rockets, Infinity Rockets, Stardust Barrage Rockets and Illusion Barrage Rockets.

Sgt Tim Heap, from Cannock police, urged people who may be offered the fireworks to contact them.

He said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who has been offered the fireworks to help us trace the offenders."

Fireworks should always be handled responsibly and could be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands.

"These fireworks have already been offered to some shopkeepers in the Sedgley and Wolverhampton areas and we believe more shops may be approached.

"It is a large quantity of fireworks and we are very keen to trace their whereabouts."

Anyone with information should contact Sgt Heap on 0300 123 4455 ext 8830 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
