He had been a member of both Stourport town council and Wyre Forest District Council while running his own engineering firm.

Councillors and family today spoke of their shock at the sudden death of the popular figure branded a "community champion" in Stourport.

Mr Partridge's wife Lesley said the father-of-one died on Tuesday at Worcester Royal Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

He had served two spells on Wyre Forest council and was councillor for Arley Kings ward representing the Conservatives until his death.

He had combined his council duties with running Atomic Trailers engineering firm before becoming a self-employed factory machinery engineer over the past few months.

"He always said that he wanted to put something back into the community," Mrs Partridge, of Redstone Lane, Stourport, said.

The leader of Wyre Forest District Council, Councillor John Campion, said: "I am devastated by the sudden loss of a great community champion."
