Mark Bloor, owner of Bloor Logistics in Bilston, leapt into action following the horror head-on smash between the Dudley woman's Renault Clio and a bin lorry just yards from his company in Vulcan Road.

The 26-year-old, who was first on the scene, likened the noise of the impact to a "jumbo jet engine" and told how workers ran from the yard armed with a fire extinguisher. He said: "We saw there were flames by the driver's feet so we got a fire extinguisher and put them out.

"We saw the little girl in the back and a few of the guys managed to get her out along with a Staffordshire bull terrier. She was quiet, probably in shock. We looked after her in my office until she was taken to hospital."

Firefighters rescued the girl's 21-year-old mother, who was today critical at Selly Oak Hospital following the smash on Monday.
