A driver killed in a crash at a blackspot near Kidderminster was today named as Kelvin Stephens of Wolverley.

Police today issued a fresh appeal for information to help the investigation into Mr Stephens' death. Officers want to trace witness who know the movements of the both vehicles in the moments leading up to the crash.

Mr Stephens, aged 23, was driving his black Honda Coupe as he drove along the A442 between Kidderminster and Shatterford when he was involved in a crash with a silver Vauxhall Zafira on Friday at around 7pm.

They confirmed that no arrests had been made in connection with the crash.

Mr Stephens' family, who live in Franche Road, were too upset to speak yesterday. He had to be cut out of the car and was dead when ambulance crews arrived on the scene last Friday evening.

Councillor Gordon Yarranton today called for measures to improve safety on the road. He said: "There has been quite a few accidents on this road. It is a very fast road and something needs to be done to slow the traffic down."

Pc Andy Saunders, of North Worcestershire Road Policing Unit, said: "We want to hear from anybody who witnessed the crash itself or saw the movements of cars before the crash."

Flowers and tributes have been placed at the scene of the crash by mourners in remembrance of Mr Stephens. Skidmarks, shattered glass and broken parts of the two cars mark the spot the crash happened two miles north of Kidderminster.

A post mortem has yet to take place and an inquest is due to open later this week. His passenger, a man believed to be in his 20s, suffered head injuries. He was taken to Worcester Royal Hospital.

Those in the other car, a silver Vauxhall Zafira – a man in his 40s and his three daughters aged between eight and 12 – were said to have suffered minor injuries. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to call 0300 333 3000.
