Man badly hurt in rush-hour crash
A man suffered severe head injuries in a crash which caused delays for rush-hour commuters and closed two roads in Cannock Chase today.
Police sealed off the A460 Hednesford Road near its junction with Slitting Mill Road after a collision between a Toyota 4x4 and a Ford Orion. The Orion was found ablaze near the The Horns Inn on Slitting Mill Road where it had been abandoned.
The road was also closed for almost a mile stretch while police and paramedics worked at the scene. A man, believed to be the driver of the Toyota, was taken to hospital with severe head injuries following the collision which happened at 3.20am.
The Orion had veered off the road and overturned, hitting a telegraph pole and landing on its roof after the driver lost control. The burnt-out vehicle, which came to a halt in pine trees bordering the road, was recovered just before 8.30am and the road re-opened.
It is not known whether the vehicle burst into flames on impact or was deliberately set alight. The A460 was re-opened at 7.30am.
