Steve and Carly Mogg married at the Jarvis Heath Hotel in Bewdley on Saturday, where Sir Stirling was giving a talk as part of the the town's festival.

And they were thrilled when the 80-year-old, considered by many to be Britain's finest ever racing driver, agreed to meet them and pose for pictures at the Habberley Road hotel. Steve, a truck driver, and Carly, who works as a genetic technologist for the NHS, are both huge motor racing fans – and even had a chequered flag decoration on the top of their wedding cake.

Carly, aged 23, said: "We couldn't believe it when we found out Sir Stirling was appearing at the same hotel. I was worried half the wedding party would disappear to see him," she said.

Steve, aged 33, added: "We are both big F1 fans and to meet Sir Stirling was the icing on the cake at the end of a fantastic day." The couple, who live in Comberton Hill, Kidderminster, are honeymooning in New York.
