Football legend George Best's son has pledged to do a skydive to aid a Staffordshire children's charity.

Fashion model and reality TV star Calum Best is to jump from 10,000ft next month in Fear Factor, a national skydive event being staged in Oxfordshire by Caudwell Children, which provides treatment, therapy and specialist equipment for sick and disabled youngsters.

Calum is now gearing up for the challenge on Sunday, November 1 when more than 100 participants are expected to take part and help raise funds.

A similar event staged by the charity last year raised over £10,000 for the cause.

"It's a great cause and a huge challenge that will hopefully help provide lots of kids with the support they need and deserve," said Calum.

Caudwell Children is committed to helping change the lives of sick and disabled children by providing individual donations of specialist equipment, treatment and therapy as well as its annual Destination Dreams holiday for families coping with a child's terminal illness.

To date Caudwell Children has donated more than £11 million to thousands of children with 160 medical conditions.

What makes the charity unique is that all the administration and management costs are covered by entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist, John Caudwell, who lives near Eccleshall, meaning that every penny raised can go directly to the children.

Trudi Beswick, chief executive officer for Caudwell Children, said "Getting such high profile support is fantastic and we hope it will help raise awareness of the event and in turn help boost our ability to help sick and disabled youngsters throughout the UK.

"The Fear Factor challenge has already appealed to a number of thrill seekers who can help sick and disabled children while trying something new.

"It's a great event for colleagues, groups of friends and families to challenge each other and themselves." To join Fear Factor and for more information about Caudwell Children contact Claire Proctor on 01782 600232 or e-mail claire.proctor@caudwellchildren.com
