Josie Cronin was sitting in the bay window of the house in Knowle Hill Road, Netherton, when a red Vauxhall Astra crashed into the property, destroying part of the wall and shattering glass around her.

Today her parents Louise Virgo, aged 37, and Karl Cronin, aged 35, said Josie was lucky to escape the "nightmare" unharmed.

Louise, who is a full-time foster parent, said: "We saw flashing lights and heard a horn sounding and thought it was boy racers driving up the road outside. Then there was an awful bang and Josie was flying through the air before she landed on the rug."

The alarm on the car – which was parked on the opposite side of the road – went off at about 8.15pm last night before it rolled down the hill for no apparent reason.

The Hillcrest School pupil was sitting in an armchair playing on her computer when the vehicle hit the building. She said: "I felt shaken and my things are still underneath."
