More than 100 jobs are up for grabs at Asda stores around the region to help cover shifts over the festive period with dozens more posts already filled.

Walsall's George Street store will be holding a special recruitment event tomorrow with queues of people expected to be vying for 50 posts from cashiers to butchers and bakers. Other stores recruiting in time for Christmas include Asda in Molineux Way, Wolverhampton, where 50 workers are needed and Asda Queslett, Old Horns Crescent, Great Barr.

A string of other stores have already recruited workers, including Asda in St Lawrence Way, Darlaston, which has taken on 25 people in the last few weeks and Asda in Avon Road, Cannock, has recruited 19 seasonal staff.

Asda Tipton has already filled 25 seasonal positions after being inundated with hundreds of applications.

Personnel manager Janet Glenn said they filled the posts early this year and did not need to hold a recruitment day because the demand was so high.

John Perry, general store manager at Asda in Walsall, said: "We're very happy to be able to create these 50 positions for local people.

"Christmas is a very busy time of year for us here in store and the additional colleagues will make a fantastic difference so that we can keep helping the people of Walsall to save money every day."

The recruitment fair will take place in the George Street store in Walsall from 2pm to 4pm.

Mr Perry added: "Anyone would like to register their interest should come along and fill out an application form for a position - retail experience would be advantageous however, it isn't essential as we hire for attitude and train for skill."

Jenny Williams, peoples' service manager at Asda in Wolverhampton, said there had been a lot of interest in festive vacancies.

The store is not holding any recruitment days but anyone interested is encouraged to pick up an application form from the store.
