Workers fear a post delivery office in Wyre Forest has been earmarked for closure, prompting concerns over jobs.

Union leaders today said members had been told by a manager that Stourport Delivery Office could shut.

Around 30 people are employed at the depot and union representatives say these jobs could be lost or workers relocated to offices further afield.

Royal Mail bosses today said the efficiency of all depots was constantly under review but said there were "no firm plans" about the office's future.

Communication Workers Union (CWU) branch secretary Gary Perry said the union have been asking Royal Mail for clarification on the issue.

"We are aware that Royal Mail is looking at closing the delivery office," he said.

"Royal Mail has said that we are scaremongering but there are a lot of people concerned by this.

"I understand that a manager at Stourport Delivery Office told staff that it had been earmarked for closure. You may end up with the situation where people can't travel from Stourport to another office and they might have to give up their job."

Mr Perry said: "The quality of service provided by staff there is second-to-none and I'm sure this would deteriorate if staff were forced to move to another office," he said.

Royal Mail spokesman Tom Prendergast said: "We constantly review the operational efficiency and commercial practicality of all our units. However, at present, we have no firm plans regarding Stourport Delivery Office."
