World-famous lyricist Sir Tim Rice has written to a Kidderminster drama group as they prepare to stage one of his lesser-known works.

Kidderminster Carpet Trades Operatic Society received the letter wishing them "every success" in their production of The Likes of Us.

The group will perform the show, based on the achievements of Dr Barnardo, at Stourport Civic Hall from next Monday to Saturday. Tickets are available by calling Kay Paine on 01562 638864.

Members of the group said they were very pleased to have received the letter.

The Likes of Us was the first collaboration between Sir Tim and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

It has never been staged professionally but has now been made available to amateur performers.

The letter from Sir Tim says: "I am sorry I am unable to attend the show but I hope you all have a terrific time." He ends by wishing them every success for the performance.
