The alleged killers of a Walsall man were facing trial in Spain today. Danny Hastelow was killed the day after his 26th birthday in January last year.
He was stabbed as he slept in the resort of Calvia, in Magaluf, where he was working as barman.
Richard Roberts, aged 36, and Anthony Griffiths, 23, both from Merseyside, were charged with murdering Danny, formerly of Bridgewater Close, Walsall Wood, the day after he died.
They have been remanded in custody ever since.
Today the pair were due to appear at court for the start of their hearing.
Danny's mother Sue, 55, and sister Claire Peters, 36, flew to Spain on Saturday ready for the case.
Claire said: "We don't know what to expect but we wanted to be there in the court to see the trial.
"We are hoping the British Consulate will be there to offer us some assistance, but we also have some of Danny's friends from Spain who will be there and some family friends are meeting us over there as well."
The body of former bricklayer Danny is buried in Spain, where it must remain until the trial is over. Danny's family have been told they need to pay £10,000 to have it flown home as he did not have the correct travel insurance.
So far a campaign has raised around £8,000.
The family is also facing a bill of up to £35,000 to pay for solicitors fees in Spain.
