Tipton station shut for eight months
A Black Country train station will shut for eight months for a £2.5million refurbishment to extend platforms.
Services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham will still pass through Tipton station but will not stop.
The work will allow longer trains to be accommodated at the station.
It will be closed from Monday until May 2010, when more passengers will be able to get on the trains as carriage numbers are increased from four to six. Instead passengers will have to take replacement bus services to Coseley.
The route affected includes trains running to Dudley Port, Sandwell and Dudley, Smethwick Galton Bridge, Birmingham New Street, Duddeston, Aston, Perry Barr, Tame Bridge Parkway, Bescot Stadium and Walsall.
Timetables will not be affected at this stage, but details of possible disruptions will be revealed.
Network Rail is funding the work to resurface platforms and refurbish the station.
Spokeswoman Rachel Blackman said: "Just under £2.5million is being invested in rebuilding the platforms and other improvements.
"This will be the complete renewal of platforms one and two using low maintenance materials.
"Both platforms towards Wolverhampton will be extended to allow a six carriage train to utilise the station.
"The waiting shelter will also be replaced."
