The body of a woman believed to be missing Black Country grandmother Christine Fletcher has been found on a wooded hillside, detectives said today.

Officers investigating the disappearance of post office assistant Mrs Fletcher, aged 57, said they made the discovery at 6.10pm yesterday while searching the Deepwood area of the Clent hills near Stourbridge.

The body was found in an area with difficult terrain and steep drops, they said.

Mrs Fletcher, of Austrey Road, Kingswinford, vanished on August 25 while on her way to work at the post office in nearby Granville Drive.

Her car was found abandoned near a car park at the beauty spot and the body was less than a mile away.

Det Insp Will O'Connor said: "We had a witness come forward earlier this week that gave a sighting matching Christine's description on the morning of her disappearance heading for the Deepwood area.

"Specialist search teams of around 25 to 30 officers focused their efforts in that area and that is where at about 6.10 last night the discovery was made of a female body.

"Because of the difficulty of the terrain and the weather it was too difficult to recover the body last night and it will be recovered this morning.

"We can't confirm it is Christine until formal identification has taken place."
