Metro services off for second day

Services on part of the Midland Metro route have been suspended for a second day due to problems with overhead lines.

Trams were unable to get between Birmingham Snow Hill and Black Lake in West Bromwich, only running this morning between Black Lake and Wolverhampton St George's.

By 9am the route was open between Soho Benson Road and Wolverhampton, but Midland Metro spokeswoman Carly O'Donnell confirmed the rest of the line would be closed until at least tomorrow.

The problem is not related to vandalism.

Passengers were allowed to use their tickets on buses and London Midland trains. Bosses expected the problem to continue until noon.

Yesterday trams were stopped because of problems between Soho Benson Road and Jewellery Quarter, after the power lines failed at around 9.30am.

Trains also had to be suspended yesterday between Birmingham and Stourbridge after a man was struck by a train.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was hit by a train approaching a platform at Stourbridge Junction railway station at around 5.15pm.

He is in a critical condition in hospital.
