Robert Ditchburn, a former Burns Street Primary and Cannock Chase High School pupil who owned a house on the island, died on October 24 last year. The 31-year-old had just been made redundant from his job as bar manager at the Uxbridge pub in Hednesford.

He came off his bike just days before he was due to fly back to Britain.

His family, who are unsure of the exact circumstances of his death, are staging a live music evening to raise funds for the RoadPeace charity.

RoadPeace is campaigning for greater help from the Government and consulates for families whose loved ones are involved in road crashes abroad.

Mr Ditchburn's sister Catherine said: "We found there was very little help for us which made a terrible situation even more difficult.

"Hopefully, this event will raise some cash to help other families in the sad situation we found ourselves in," she added.

Catherine described her brother, a Manchester United season ticket holder, as a well-known and enthusiastic person who liked riding his motorbike, socialising, all types of music and DJ-ing.

He also once stood for election in Cannock as a member of the Monster Raving Loony Party.

The fundraiser will take place on October 3, at the Premier Suite, Bar Sport, Cannock, from 7.30pm to 1am.

It will feature live music, with Greenwood Park, Custard Beast and J C Sounds so far confirmed.

There will also be an auction and raffle on the night.

Anyone willing to donate prizes should contact Catherine on 07969 181991.

Brigitte Chaudhry MBE, RoadPeace founder and president, said: "Our aim is to end discrimination against road crash victims and leniency towards road law breaking."
