Rock Houses are solid success
Workers at a Midland tourist attraction are toasting the staycation trend with tea and cakes after figures revealed visitor numbers are up by half.
The Holy Austin Rock Houses in Kinver is the latest attraction to report a surge in visitors as would-be holidaymakers opt for days out closer to home as the recession bites.
From March to June there were 3,733 visitors to Kinver's ancient rock houses up from 2,464 for the same period last year, an increase of 51 per cent. The boom in visitors has been put down to the staycation phenomenon sweeping the nation.
Bob Clarke, who has written books on Kinver Edge, said: "I think people have discovered there are a lot of places worth seeing in this country. The credit crunch means they don't want to travel further afield."
