Friends of father-of-four Andre Williamson and 22-year-old Andrene Smith, both of Wolverhampton have set up a roadside shrine to the couple at the scene of the accident on Birmingham New Road. The couple had named their baby son after motorbiking champ Valentino Rossi and had bought him a toy motorbike on the day before the crash.

Tributes to the couple continued to be placed at the memorial set up near to the junction with Sangwin Road, in Coseley, well into yesterday evening.

Friends said Mr Williamson, who had recently celebrated his 30th birthday, was a passionate motorcyclist and never looked on the serious side of life.

Miss Smith was a hairdresser who used to work in Chapel Ash until setting up her own business.

Her parents Janet and Neville Smith, of Dale Street, Graisley, Wolverhampton, described their daughter as a "bubbly, outgoing girl with lots of friends".

Mr Smith, 58, said they enjoyed going out on the bike together and were going to meet friends in Dudley on the day of the accident to make the most of the sunny evening.

"Ragga was so mad about biking he named their son after Valentino Rossi. He had even bought the baby a toy motorbike the day before the crash."

Andrene's sister Amry, aged 27, broke the news of the tragedy to her parents after friends called her to the scene of the collision on Tuesday night.

Mr Williamson has three other children – Lashanna, Leighanna and Lakayla.

A friend of Mr Williamson, who did not wish to be named, said: "He moved over from Jamaica around a decade ago and I have been his friend ever since. In fact he was like a son to me," she said.

A special memorial event is to be held at the Tropical Harmony Club in Bilston where they often went dancing.
