Angry passengers are demanding transport bosses take action over the state of Hednesford bus station, which has no destination signs in its bays and outdated timetables.

Passengers using the Victoria Street bus station say they are playing a guessing game as to when their next bus will arrive because of the lack of information.

They say it is being neglected and are calling for bus company Arriva to take action. But Arriva today blamed vandals for tearing signs down and said they would not be replaced because the site is earmarked for development as part of the £50 million Hednesford Town Centre Regeneration plan.

Tesco has submitted a plan which will incorporate the site of the bus station and Aquarius ballroom.

Bus users have written to Hednesford Town Council expressing their dismay and calling for action.

Staffordshire County councillor Derek Davis said a meeting was being organised between Hednesford Town Council and Arriva to try to resolve the situation.

Councillor Davis, who is also leader of Hednesford Town Council, said: "I find this situation appalling. This is a busy bus terminal and passengers are totally disorientated. It's ludicrous.

"There are five bays and not one has a single sign giving either information on a destination or timetable."

Keith Myatt, from Arriva, said the company would not be installing any more signs because of vandalism. He said: "They cost up to £100 each and it is simply too expensive. We have no plans to replace them."
