Roadworks again brought vehicles to a standstill around Burnt Tree island, near Dudley, this morning.

Yesterday, motorists reported two-mile tailbacks and National Express West Midlands, which runs the majority of bus routes in the region, was forced to send out more buses amid the chaos.

Inspectors were dispatched to monitor the revised services and check they were running to schedule. Staff were also on hand at Dudley bus station and at major bus stops to advise passengers how best to complete their journey.

Five routes have been affected by the start of an 18-month roadworks pro- ject – the 74 from Birmingham to Dudley via West Bromwich and Great Bridge; the 87 from Birmingham to Dudley via Cape Hill, Smethwick and Old-bury; the 128 from Birmingham to Blackheath via Bearwood, Warley and Oldbury; the 129 from Birmingham to Blackheath via Smethwick and Oldbury and the 205 from Blackheath to Dudley.

Jams were again backing up more than a mile from Burnt Tree island towards Dudley this morning.
