Tycoon in shock bid to buy Yeltz

A multi-millionaire businessman is preparing a shock bid to become a benefactor at Halesowen Town FC which he claims would safeguard the future of the club.

However, fans say tht they would not support the move as would-be backer Godfrey Ingram is a close friend of controversial former owner and manager Morell Maison. Ex-Luton Town footballer turned entrepreneur Mr Ingram is studying the club's books with a view to investing and hopes to prevent administrators being called in.

His brother, Graham, also involved in the bid, said they want to make a "long-term" commitment to the Yeltz.

But supporters' group the Yeltz Trust say they do not want him to invest because of his links to Mr Maison and instead want the club to be placed into administration.

It comes after a High Court ruling plunged the debt-ridden club into further disarray. A consortium which secured a controlling stake was seeking to place the Yeltz in administration but a judge imposed an injunction against that course of action after a legal challenge by Mr Maison.

An emergency general meeting must now be called to discuss the club's future.

California-based Mr Ingram, aged 49, confirmed he was contacted by Mr Maison about investing in the Yeltz. He said: "Knowing the capability and ambition Morell has for Halesowen Town Football Club I could offer no less than my complete support." Morell Maison was unavailable for comment today.
