Alvin Wakes up to the 60s
More than 2,000 fans of sixties music enjoyed a seven-hour show featuring many of their heroes at Burntwood Rugby Club.
Among the singers thrilling the crowds at the Burntwood Wakes' Sixties Summer Festival last night was Alvin Stardust, who had his biggest hits in the seventies, but also hit the charts in the sixties as Shane Fenton and the Fentones.
The line-up also included Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers, The Move, P J Proby, Mike D'Abo and Chip Hawkes.
Among the fans was Loose Women star Jane McDonald, who was there with her partner Searchers drummer Eddie Rothe.
"I'm having an absolutely brilliant time. Any time when I am seeing The Searchers I am happy," she said.
Bernadette Swanwick, of Burntwood, said she came every year to the Wakes concerts.
"This year I have come to see The Move. I saw them back in the sixties at Barbarellas in Birmingham." she said.
Carol Stewart from Bridgtown, came specially to see former Tremeloes singer Chip Hawkes. "It has been an amazing show," she said. Sixties music fan Leslie Griffiths from Woodsetton said the show had been great.
