Burntwood's Hannah Corbett has been selected to start a new life in London helping to prepare for the games as part of the Get Ahead school leavers' programme.

The scheme, targeted at 16 to 18-year-olds, will see Hannah, who has recently left Chase Terrace Technology College, join nine other young people from across the UK to take up a position with the organising committee.

Hannah was recommended for the employment programme by Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent's 2012 co-ordinator, Chris Kirkland, because of her enthusiasm and outstanding work as a Young Ambassador for the Burntwood and Lichfield School Sport Partnership.

She also ran a workshop at the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent 2012 Conference earlier this year.

Mr Kirkland said today: "Hannah has worked tirelessly to inspire young people to be more healthy and active in her role as ambassador within her local school community."

She was inspired to organise a mini Olympic games event at her school after having attended an earlier Youth Sport Trust conference in 2007 where she met Olympic champions and learned more about her role as a young ambassador.

The event involved 190 Year 5 students from five feeder schools within the Burntwood and Lichfield School Sport Partnership with the aim of encouraging everyone to take part in sport.

The day incorporated a range of activities which are not normal Olympic events, so every youngster would learn a different skill and excel in at least one, learning physical, cognitive and co-ordination skills.

Hannah said: "My role as a young ambassador has opened so many doors for me and given me many chances in life. I would really recommend young people to get involved and embrace all opportunities that school can give. It's worked for me and I can't wait to start my new life in London."

Hannah will take up her new position in September.
