Stourport's restored Canal Basins have reached the final stages in a national competition to find the best project funded by Lottery cash.

Community areas and tourist attractions were created as part of the £4 million project, which was completed last year.

And the scheme has now battled through to the final stage of this year's National Lottery Awards.

Now people are being asked to show their support by voting to help them win the Best Heritage Project category.

The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects.

Restoration of Stourport Canal Basins has to beat just two other finalists in its category to win the title of the UK's favourite Heritage project and collect prize money of £2,000.

If successful the cash will be used to fund educational visits to the site for school children to teach them more about the basin's history.

Voting opened today and ends at noon on August 14. People are asked to call 0844 686 3010 to support the scheme's bid. Votes can also be registered at www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards

Winners will be announced in a special show on BBC1 on September 5.
