Four of the suspects were arrested in a series of raids and searches yesterday and overnight by officers, some of them armed.

Police swooped on homes in areas including Tipton and Wolverhampton, after the killing of father-of-four Swinder Singh Batth.

Detectives today arrested another suspect, a 24-year-old man, in Bilston.

The 47-year-old is thought to have intervened in a dispute outside Gavin's Sports Bar in Bilston, which he ran with his 18-year-old son Gavin.

He was shot outside the pub just after midnight yesterday and died in his son's arms at New Cross Hospital.

Two of the men initially arrested are aged 21, one is 22 and a fourth is 23.

A post-mortem on Mr Batth, of Hughes Road, Moxley, was expected to take place today.

The Orchard area surrounding the pub remained closed today for forensic examinations.

Det Ch Insp Jo Clews, heading the investigation, said: "We are keen to speak to any regulars who visit Gavin's Sports Bar and in particular those who may have been drinking there on Monday night.

"We urge anyone with information to get in touch."
