Father-of-four Swinder Singh Batth, aged 47, was murdered after reportedly intervening in a dispute at Gavin's Sports Bar, which he ran with his 18-year-old son Gavin.

This afternoon roads around the pub, including Hall Street and The Orchard, were sealed off as police searched for clues, and buses were diverted.

The family of Mr Batth, who was pronounced dead in New Cross Hospital just after midnight, described him as popular and generous.

Speaking at the family home in Hughes Road, daughter Danny, aged 20, said: "He was a very loving, caring man who was so generous to all his family.

"He had a son and three daughters and we all loved him so much. We just can't believe what happened."

Mr Batth also had daugh Jinder, aged 21 and four-year-old Perina, and was married to wife Palwinder.

Brother-in-law Balraj Singh, aged 33, said: "He was an excellent businessman who owned a number of properties.

"He died in Gavin's arms last night. I am devastated."
