A high school prom ended in a brawl at a hotel in the Black Country.

A teenager was rushed to hospital with a broken arm after a fight between pupils from Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High at Park Hall Hotel.

Police and paramedics were called to the hotel in Goldthorn Park, Wolverhampton, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers spoke to teenagers but made no arrests and a 19-year-old was taken to hospital. The fight in the car park was captured on the hotel's CCTV cameras.

One mother, who did not want to be named, said: "A prom is supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience but unfortunately my son will remember this one for all the wrong reasons."

Cheslyn Hay headteacher John Martin said the prom had been arranged independently of the school and its staff. He said: "No staff were present at the event and the school had no involvement with it."

Hotel spokesman James Jagpal confirmed the booking had been made under the name "Cheslyn Hay School Prom".

He said: "We have the majority of proms from schools in and around Wolverhampton each year.

"This was an isolated incident which our security handled and then passed over to the authorities."
