Fazel Yacoub fell backwards and cracked his head on the pavement after being pushed in the face by Lukasz Tombak, a court heard.
Mr Yacoub, aged 41, of The Broadway, Norton, Stourbridge, never recovered consciousness from a fractured skull, said Mr Tariq Shakoor, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court.
Tombak, 26, of Stourbridge Road, Kidderminster, admitted manslaughter. Both men worked at Forest Garden, a firm which makes garden equipment on the Hartlebury Trading Estate.
Baghdad-born Mr Yacoub moved to Britain in 1991.
The "bonding session" was held at the Watermill pub in Kidderminster on October 16 last year but some of the revellers walked into the town centre.
Mr Yacoub had spoken to Tombak about "pestering" a woman in the group, the court heard. When he tried to kick one of his friends, Tombak pushed him.
Mr Denis Desmond, defending, said the assault was not premeditated.
