Quarry will be used for rubbish

Household waste from the Wyre Forest district is to be tipped into a quarry at the Weinerberger brick-making site in Hartlebury it was revealed today.

From September industrial and commercial waste will also be dumped at the tip site, which was created by digging out clay at Whitlenge Lane.

The Environment Agency has granted Biffa a licence for use of the site as a waste tip. The company currently operates the landfill site at Waresley, about half-a-mile from Whitlenge Lane, which has recently attracted complaints about smell.

Biffa say the current site will now be "mothballed" and has already been capped and is in the process of being turned back into agricultural land.

Weinerberger plans to move its clay digging operations back to Waresley. Letters are being sent to 600 householders this weekend telling them that the Whitlenge Lane site will be opened in September. About 90 vehicles each weekday and about 30 on Saturdays are expected to visit the site.
