More than 100 people took part in a fun day organised by the National Federation of Retail Newsagents at the AMF Bowling Centre at Wednesfield, Wolverhampton.

Secretary Fred Pezhman, who helped arrange the social outing with regional NFRN retail development manager Phil Williams, said it was a chance for newsagents to switch off for a short while from their demanding seven-day-a-week jobs.

He said: "The event really enthused members and many have shown an interest to become more active in the federation.

"People really entered into the spirit of the event. As well as bowling, food and drink, a competition for highest total score was arranged to add a little extra excitement."

The challenge was won by Thomas Bywater from Bywater News, Upper Gornal, while Raj Vernon, from Windermere News, Tettenhall, came second with Mr Sandhu, from Dals Newsagents, Whitmore Reans, finishing third.

Spot prizes were also handed out by AMF during the event and a draw to win eight free games at the bowling centre raised £100 for the Old Ben Fund, which helps retired newsagents.

District president Pravin Chauhan said: "It was a great day out and a wonderful way for members to engage with each other in an informal way.

"I hope to see other branches doing something in a similar vein in the future."
