The market off Silver Street will finish tomorrow after 37 years, leaving around 50 stallholders high and dry.

Owner Spook Erection Ltd revealed yesterday it was pulling out after failing to reach an agreement over a new lease with the council.

But cabinet member for regeneration Adrian Andrew today vowed to do his best to make sure traders livelihoods were safeguarded.

He said: "Officers have already been looking at options which include the possibility of the council running the market.

"We want to ensure that Brownhills does not lose its market and we are working hard to try and ensure this."

The market's future has been rocky for months.
