A Wolverhampton primary school has been forced to shut because of a major electrical fault.

Bilston CofE Primary in Albany Crescent will be closed for at least 48 hours, keeping 176 pupils at home.

The problem has forced the school to cancel its sports day and Fairtrade fete, which were due to be taking place today and tomorrow.

School administrator Lynn Beech told of how workmen had found a fault with one of the main electricity cables when they were carrying out routine repairs.

Mrs Beech said: "We've had to cancel two really big events and we're all very disappointed."
