David Tsang from Norton, Stourbridge, has been told he is one of the first to win the Each Way Lucky 63 after scooping the cash on Friday afternoon.

The 39-year-old says he owes his good fortune to the Express & Star's racing tips and his lucky cap.

He won the windfall in just three hours and 10 minutes when Anjomarba romped to the finish line in the 4pm at York, followed by North Cape in the 4.55pm at Sandown, Joe Jo Star in the 5.05pm at York, Shiwana in the 6.05pm at Aintree, Sir Parky in the 6.30pm at Chepstow, and Simple Glory in the 7.10pm at Aintree.

Mr Tsang, who runs The Golden Fish restaurant in Lye, collected his £2,108.38 winnings from the William Hill betting shop in Stourbridge yesterday after placing a total of £6.30 on the six horses, based on bets of just 5p each way.

The each way stakes on six horses gave him 126 winning bets which rolled over to give him the bumper payout.

The staggered football fan almost fell off his chair when bookies phoned to let him know how much he stood to make.

He said: "I've come close before with five out of six winners and I've been betting for a couple of years now.

"I was gobsmacked when I found out the winnings were over £2,000."

Mr Tsang says he now plans to put the money towards paying off the mortgage on his home in Albemarle Road and a holiday in Tokyo. He added he would definitely continue betting at the same bookmakers, which has proved its reputation for being lucky.

He also insists on wearing a baseball cap every time he places a bet to bring him even more good fortune.

Mr Tsang also netted a 25 per cent bonus for backing all six winners and the punter's stake money is returned.

Anjomarba was 11-2, North Cape was 4-1, Joe Jo Star was 3-1, Shiwana was 7-4, Sir Parky was 4-5, while Simple Glory was on at 12-1.

Mr Tsang said:"I've had a few wins at that bookmakers. My biggest win before this one was almost £1,000 from a £2 stake so it has been lucky for me." He praised the form guide in the Express & Star saying it had helped him to pick some of the winning horses.
