A 100-year-old resident at a Black Country nursing home had to be rescued by fire crews after she became trapped in a lift.

Fire crews were called to Lyttelton House in Blackberry Lane, Halesowen, on Saturday evening to rescue the pensioner who was stranded between floors when the door jammed.

The plucky centenarian pushed the 'help' button straightaway for staff at the sheltered housing block to come to her aid.

Halesowen watch commander Adrian Passmore the woman was not trapped in the lift for long but surprised everyone with her calmness. He said: "She knew immediately that help was on the way. She did not get at all distressed."
