Labour have slipped to third place in the West Midlands after winning just one of the six seats available in the European Elections.

The Liberal Democrats also took one seat, while the Conservative Party and the United Kingdom Independence Party gained two each.

Philip Bradbourn and Malcolm Harbour were elected for the Conservatives, while Mike Nattress and Nikki Sinclaire were elected for the UKIP.

This year's turnout in the West Midlands region was 35.07 per cent, fractionally down on 2004's figure of 36.63 per cent.

European Election Results for the West Midlands region (in order)

  • Conservative - 396,847 votes (28.1 per cent of the available total)

  • UK Independence Party - 300,471 votes (21.3 per cent share)

  • Labour - 240,201 votes (17.0 per cent share)

  • Liberal Democrats - 170, 246 votes (12 per cent share)

  • British National Party - 121,967 votes (8.6 per cent share)

  • Green Party - 88,244 votes (6.2 per cent share)

  • English Democrats - 32,455 votes (2.3 per cent share)

  • Christian Party-Christian People's Alliance - 18,784 votes (1.3 per cent share)

  • Socialist Labour Party - 14,724 votes (1.0 per cent share)

  • No2EU - 13,415 votes, (0.9 per cent share)

  • Jury Team - 8,721 votes (0.6 per cent share)

  • Libertas - 6,961 votes (0.5 per cent share).
