They met by accident – literally – and have been on a crash course in love ever since.

Electrican Richard Yates dashed to the aid of motorist Robyn Singh when her Golf collided with a lorry on the Stourbridge Ring Road – and instantly fell in love.

Four years on, the couple were tying the knot at a ceremony in Oldwinford in front of 200 friends and family this afternoon.

But the road to romance was not exactly smooth and it was a year before 24-year-old Richard asked Robyn for a date.

Recalling their meeting, he said: "I'd actually clocked her before the accident.

"There was a piece on the radio about a survey which said Golf drivers were the best-looking. I looked across at her and thought 'They're dead right, she's really fit'.

"Then the collision happened and I ran across the road and got her out of her car. Luckily she wasn't badly injured so I took her home to her parents' house in Wordsley." Richard was seeing someone else at the time but the couple kept in touch as he was a witness to the accident and when his relationship broke up, he asked Robyn out.

The 23-year-old exam administrator accepted and the pair have been steering a path to happiness ever since.

Richard said: "It was surreal the way we met, I really believe it was fate."

Robyn, who works at Stourbridge College, added: "He spent an hour with me at the scene, so I had plenty of time to notice him. He was my hero, I really wanted him to ask me out." She added: "I wouldn't recommend it as a way of meeting your husband-to-be but it worked for me."
