Rider dies at child's play area
A scramble bike rider has died after driving into a rope suspended across a children's climbing frame at a playground in Stourport.
Jason Meacham, aged 26, from Larford Walk on the Walshes Estate at Stourport, fell from his bike while riding at Barnfield Park.
He was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital at Worcester but was confirmed dead.
His death on Friday at around 9.45pm is currently being treated as "unexplained" but West Mercia Police have said they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
Medical evidence showed Mr Meacham had died of shock and bleeding to his spine, and a major injury to his neck.
Today shocked neighbours living near the semi-detached red-brick house said Jason had lived with his parents Graham and Melinda and described him as "a lovely person" and talented scramble bike rider.
Christine Stone, aged 57, who lives next door, said: "I have lived here for five years and although we keep ourselves to ourselves I thought he was a lovely person.
"I heard about the tragedy from a friend. It is a real shock and terrible for the family." An inquest was opened and adjourned on his death yesterday .
