A 10-year-old girl and two motorcyclists were injured in a weekend of crashes on West Midland roads.

Eleyse Lawrence, from Dudley, had to be cut free from the passenger seat of her father's van after it was involved in a crash with a lorry near Lichfield.

The southbound carriageway was closed for almost four hours after the smash, while a section of the northbound road was also shut to allow the air ambulance to land.

Today Eleyse was recovering from a leg injury after being flown by air ambulance to Birmingham Children's Hospital, where her condition was described as stable.

Her 32-year-old father Horatio Lawrence was left with cuts and bruises in the crash, which happened on the southbound A38 near Rykneld Street in Fradley at around 4pm yesterday, despite extensive damage to his white Ford Transit.

The driver of the white Scania articulated HGV, 40-year-old Tamworth man Colin Bolan, was also unhurt but police are appealing for witnesses to find out how Eleyse was left with serious injuries.

Elsewhere in the region, a motorcyclist in his 30s injured a leg and arm when his bike hit railings in Stourbridge.

Paramedics were called to Hagley Road, in Pedmore, shortly before 10.20pm on Saturday. He was taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital, but his condition was not thought to be life threatening. And near Wolverhampton, a motorcyclist in his 70s was taken to hospital after crashing outside a golf club.

He suffered arm and leg injuries in the crash, which happened by Worfield Golf Club, Roughton, near Bridgnorth.

Two ambulances were called at around 2.45pm on Saturday and the victim was taken to Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.

In Birmingham, a woman in her 30s and a baby were taken to hospital following a crash in Birmingham.

Paramedics were called to Audley Road in Stechford at 8.20pm on Saturday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Claire Thomas said: "The driver of the car, a woman believed to be in her 30s, suffered a nasty open fracture to her leg and was complaining of back pain."

The woman was taken to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton.

Ms Thomas added: "An 18-month-old boy, who had reportedly also been involved in the crash, was being cared for by his mother in a nearby property when crews arrived.

"He had no apparent injuries but crews were concerned about his condition as he wasn't as alert as normal.

The boy was taken to Heartlands Hospital with a nurse and the baby's mother travelling with him to hospital."
