Airlift for OAP hurt in stairs fall

A Hednesford woman was airlifted to hospital with a serious head injury after falling down stairs.

The woman, believed to be in her 80s, was in a critical condition later at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, in Stoke-on-Trent, after falling at a Bradbury Lane home on Saturday.

The Midlands Air Ambulance helicopter from RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton, was called in at about 1045am.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Crews arrived at the property to find an elderly woman at the foot of a flight of stairs.

"The elderly woman, believed to be in her 80s, suffered a serious head injury and had been knocked unconscious.

"Crews administered treatment on scene before the woman was flown to University Hospital North Staffordshire.

"The doctor travelled with the woman to hospital. Medics were on standby awaiting the arrival of the woman, who was in a critical condition."
