Carl Junior Campbell, aged 26, from Wolverhampton, faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and failing to stop after an accident, as well as attempting to pervert the course of justice for allegedly reporting his car as stolen the day after the collision.

The charges relate to the death of Clarence Elwin, who was knocked down near his home in Gospel Oak Road on June 21 last year.

He died five months later. Campbell, of Second Avenue in Low Hill, appeared before magistrates in West Bromwich this morning. He was bailed and his case committed to Wolverhampton Crown Court for a hearing on August 19.
