A devastated family today appealed to the "lowlife" who left an 87-year-old woman dying outside the home he had just robbed to hand himself in.

Emma Martin was knocked over as she opened her gate to a man she believed to be from the electricity board on December 12 last year.

After ransacking her Tipton home, he left her on the snow-covered ground with a fractured hip. She contracted a superbug in hospital while being treated for a chest infection and died on January 17.

At an inquest yesterday Black Country coroner Robin Balmain branded her attacker a "lowlife" and said she would not have died had it not been for the attack.

Her relatives today appealed for anyone who knows who was responsible to tell police.

Tina and David EvansDaughter Tina Evans, aged 56, of Bridgewater Drive, Coseley said: "This man took several thousand pounds fom my mother. He must have a lot of cash and someone close to him must know who he is.

"To leave a frail old woman to freeze in the snow outside her house is just so callous."

Son-in-law David Evans, aged 58 said: "I would urge anybody reading this who knows anything about this man to come forward."

The attacker is described as white, in his 20s, around 6ft 1ins, with a large stomach, and short, dark hair. He wore a dirty brown hat, and a dark jacket. Anyone with information can call 0845 113 5000 or Crimstoppers.
