BrightHouse will take over the landmark High Street property after tying up a medium-term lease with estate agents.

Mark Tromans, from Wolverhampton-based Michael Tromans estate agents, confirmed the final contracts had now been signed and that the new store was expected to open within the next month.

BrightHouse, which is the trading name of Caversham Finance Limited, sell home electronic and domestic appliances, household furniture and other related products.

Bloxwich West Councillor Melvin Pitt said he was not a fan of the store because of the interest it charges customers.

"The APR at BrightHouse is ridiculous and often ends up hurting the most vulnerable people," he said.

BrightHouse spokesman Craig Breheny said: "The APR at BrightHouse is 29.9 per cent, in line with your credit card. We would invite Councillor Pitt to meet with us so that he can find out more about the business."

It also provides a cheque-cashing facility as well as credit and insurance services.

Traders welcomed the news the former Woolworths was on the verge of being brought back to life.
