A dog so badly neglected she resembled a pile of rags when she was found abandoned in a sack has had a setback in her recovery from surgery.

Express & Star readers paid for Precious's operation, but now she has an infection.

The cross-terrier was dumped in a bin bag and left for dead in Cannock.

RSPCA vets diagnosed her with hormone disorder Cushings Disease and found a benign lump which needed removing at a cost of £1,000.

Rob Harris, of the RSPCA, said: "All was looking well but unfortunately after she returned to the foster carers she had a fit and was taken to the vets who diagnosed a water infection, so the poor thing is going through the mill.

"She was put on a drip and anti-biotics and has now recovered from that and got over the infection.

"She will go back to the fosterers and there will be a week for her to recover further and then we will begin a re-homing process."

Because of the Cushings Disease, Mr Harris said that Precious will need a dedicated owner who is at home most of the time and has no other dogs.

After reading about her plight in the Express & Star a Staffordshire couple came forward to pay the full £1,000 cost of the dog's operation, and Cannock Hospital League of Friends also raised £200.
